South Asian dating in Toronto.
The Greater Toronto Area has the largest South Asian community in North America, full stop. Roughly one million people. Concentrated in the inner suburbs. Largely under-served by the dating apps.
The numbers behind the GTA.
The South Asian diaspora in the GTA outnumbers the combined desi populations of New York, New Jersey, and the Bay Area. Brampton alone is over 50 percent South Asian, the highest share of any city of comparable size on the continent. Mississauga is roughly 30 percent. Markham and Scarborough each have substantial communities. The GTA has more Punjabi Sikhs than any city outside India. More Tamils than anywhere outside Sri Lanka.
The four cities inside one metro.
Brampton is the Punjabi capital of Canada. Heavy Sikh population with a strong Jat Sikh majority, plus large Punjabi Hindu and Muslim communities. Gurudwaras across the city. The dating-age population is enormous and largely under-served by mainstream apps that treat all desis as one filter.
Mississauga is the most demographically mixed of the GTA's South Asian cities. Heavy Indian (Punjabi, Gujarati, Tamil), substantial Pakistani, growing Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan communities. The Heartland and Streetsville areas are particularly desi-concentrated.
Markham and Scarborough together house the largest Tamil community outside Sri Lanka. Multi-generational at this point. The first wave arrived in the 1980s as refugees during and after the civil war, second and third generations are now dating-age. Markham also has significant Hong Kong Chinese, Korean, and Iranian communities. The desi community sits alongside, not isolated.
Toronto proper (downtown, the Annex, the East End) has a younger, more downtown-professional desi singles population. Second- and third-generation, often working in finance, tech, design, and academia.
Why Toronto matters specifically.
The GTA is the test that any honest South Asian dating app has to pass. The density is so high that the app cannot use "Indian" as a single filter and call it a day. A Tamil in Markham, a Punjabi Sikh in Brampton, a Gujarati in Mississauga, a Pakistani Muslim in Scarborough, and a Sri Lankan Sinhalese in Etobicoke are all part of the same diaspora and need an app that lets each one be specific about who they want to meet.
Saath ships free community, language, ethnicity, religion, sect, and city filters as baseline features. No caste filter. Free safety. A real intro system. A daily Spark pool. The full product, never gated by a premium tier on the cultural side.
