South Asian dating in Edison.

Launching Summer 2026 · Middlesex County · Oak Tree Road corridor

If there is a capital of the South Asian East Coast, it is the stretch of Oak Tree Road that runs from Iselin into Edison. Saath is launching here first.

The density that makes it work.

Edison Township and the neighboring section of Woodbridge known as Iselin together make up one of the densest South Asian communities in the United States. Roughly 30 percent of Edison's population identifies as South Asian, concentrated heavily in the Oak Tree Road, Old Post Road, and Stelton Road corridors. Iselin's South Asian share is even higher, with whole blocks where Gujarati, Punjabi, and Hindi are first languages.

For a dating app, that density is what actually matters. Most apps fail in mid-sized desi markets because the app is built for a generic user and the local pool ends up being too thin to ever match. In Edison, the pool is the opposite problem: there are more compatible singles in a five-mile radius than you would meet on the apps in a year.

The communities here.

The Edison-Iselin corridor is historically Gujarati-heavy, with strong Patel, Shah, and Desai family lineages going back to the first wave of South Asian migration to New Jersey in the 1970s and 80s. The neighborhood Patel Brothers grocery on Oak Tree was one of the first in the country.

The community has diversified significantly since. There are large Punjabi communities (Sikh and Hindu), substantial Tamil and Telugu populations driven by tech-sector migration to central Jersey, growing Bengali and Pakistani presences, and pockets of Sindhi, Marathi, and Malayali families. Religious diversity is real: Hindu mandirs, Sikh gurudwaras, Pakistani-Muslim and Bangladeshi-Muslim community centers, Jain derasars, and a growing Christian SA community all serve the corridor.

What is missing.

The cultural infrastructure here is mature. The dating infrastructure is not. The big apps treat the entire community as a single "Indian" filter dropdown, the niche desi apps still ship caste filters, and the auntie network does what it can but cannot keep up with the size of the single population.

Saath is built specifically for the kind of community Edison is: dense enough that you do not have to compromise on cultural specificity, plural enough that the community is not a monolith. Free community, language, ethnicity, and city filters. A real intro system, not just swipes. A daily Spark pool that pairs you with one person for one intentional conversation. Free safety features that should never be premium.
